Sin City is Back
Posted by Firegirl, 209 days ago Mar 19, 2008 13:59:37

The long awaited sequel to Rainbow Six Vegas is finally here.  Now, fans of the series can finally continue their hunt for Morales’ terrorist partners, and hopefully, the pursuit and capture of the treasonous Gabriel Nowak.  Here’s a closer look at some of the changes you will see in the new edition.

One of the first changes to note is the bigger emphasis on using group tactics.  One way this was done was by improving how the snake cam works.  Before entering a room, the snake cam can now be used to recon the room to get a look at the enemy and their positions, then you can push a button to "tag" enemies so your team knows which enemies to target AND give the "tagged" enemies priority.  This makes such tasks like rescuing a room full of hostages much easier.  You can order your teammates to take position outside a door, use the snake cam to view and "tag" the enemy, then order your team to flash and clear, starting with the highest priority enemies.  Simple.  And to make it even easier to use your teammates, you can point to an item (like a bomb, ladder, or door) and press a button to get your mates to interact with the item.

While most of the gameplay remains the same as it was in the previous Rainbow Six versions, there are a few more notable changes to be aware of.

Experience Points: Unlike previous versions, you can now rack up those experience points no matter what game mode you are playing, offline or online.  Doesn’t matter if you are playing co-op with a buddy, or home alone, you’ll earn points for new gear and weapons.

*Improved Co-op: It’s a lot more fun now for you are your buddy to play when players can hop in and out of the game at any point in time.  Also, unlike the previous, all of the story elements, like cut scenes, are included so you won’t miss any of the perks of single-player mode.

*Take Cover!: No longer can your best bud hang out behind a piece of plywood and get the same protection he would from a solid metal wall.  If it’s flimsy, you can now shoot through it!

There are still a few frustrations lurking here though.  And the finger points to the AI.  It is still frustrating to see some AI just sit out in the open absorbing round after round.  Who let my long lost redneck cousin (with an IQ of 60) on the team?  There is also times where your team will just decide to storm into a room without any signal being given.  Or, the AI will decide to just stand right in your line of fire, preventing you from shooting the bad guys.  Arghh!  And,  I would personally also like to be able to pick up extra grenades from dead enemies.  Running out them can really suck.

Despite the frustration, Vegas 2 has made many improvements that has made it a much more exciting game to play.  So, enjoy your time in Vegas but don’t expect a Vegas 3 anytime soon.  Rumor has it that a new city will be picked for the next game.  What do you think it will be?
