Apple is celebrating a new milestone today: the Apps Store now has over 100,000 apps available for download on the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Less than 16 months after it opened, the Apps Store has grown to be the largest in the entire applications market. It has quickly overtaken the Android, Blackberry, Symbian, Palm, and Windows Mobile phones. Almost 17% of the 100,000 apps are games. This is closely followed by entertainment and books. There are also over 2,700 navigation programs, 1,200 medical applications, and 442 weather apps. It’s a miracle anyone can find anything on there!
Since the Apps Store has opened, there have been over 2 billion, yes BILLION, applications downloaded in 20 categories across 77 countries.
