Droid lovers can stop dancing around in anticipation waiting for the 2.1 update to be released. There has been confirmation from Motorola that the long awaited 2.1 update will be coming out this week.
Yesterday afternoon, Motorola updated their facebook page with this: “Hi all– we know you are frustrated with the lack of details regarding Android software upgrades and we sincerely apologize for not being able to share info sooner. We’re happy to relay the 2.1 upgrade to DROID will start to roll out this week, and we will have more information to share on other device upgrades later …this week as well. Thanks for your patience and continued support.”
Yay!
Now, there has been a lot of rumors floating around the past few days that the Droid will NOT be getting the exact same 2.1 features that the Nexus One has. Some of the rumors say the Droid will NOT be getting the Live Wallpapers or the new apps drawer. Motorola has not officially commented on if the 2.1 update will be “dumbed down” for the Droid or not.
Here is what has been exptected to come in the 2.1 update (possibly):
- Live Wallpapers
- more homescreens, 5 now available
- updated home screen navigation
- new app launcher/drawer
- voice “typing” for all text fields
- new widgets
- 3D photo gallery
There has also not been any word on Flash 10 and whether it will be part of the update.
Stay tuned for more details….
UPDATE: So, yea….Last week came and went, and AGAIN there was no update. It looks like Motorola was trying to post excuse after excuse on their forums, but now that post has myteriously vanished. The only word heard from Motorola is “the update is expected to roll out soon”. Whether the holdup is by Motorola or Verizon, we don’t know.
So, yea. Just wait longer….
