Customers of Verizon Wireless will soon be able to get their hands on the Google Android phone called the Droid.
Verizon said the phone will be available starting on Nov. 6th, but for those of you who are impatient, you can go here to preorder the phone. And like most other new phones, it will cost $199 with a two-year contract.
Some of the specifications of the phone are:
- Android 2.0 operating system
- 3.7″ (480×854 pixels) hi-res touch screen
- 5MP camera with DVD-quality video
- Bluetooth
- Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g
- replaceable battery with 385 min. continuous usage
And that’s just for starters. The phone will come packed with Google services such as Android Market (to browse the over 10,000 apps already available for the phone), Gmail, and Google maps. The phone will also come bundled with Google Android navigation instead of VZNavigator. And the best part: it will be free to use for all Droid owners.
It is clear that this phone will be marketed as an iPhone alternative. Verizon has said they are going to run the largest marketing campaign ever to reach people who are looking for more choices beside the iPhone. Will it hold up to the standards that iPhone created? Only time will tell.
