The final reports are in. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has sold over 4.7 million copies on its opening day, November 10th. And that’s just for the U.S. and U.K.
That would put Modern Warfare 2 on the top for biggest entertainment launch of all time. Nice. Bet that made some people a nice, fat chunck of change. Grand Theft Auto IV was the previous industry record holder with 3.7 million units on its opening day. Before that, it was (of course) Halo 3 with 3.3 units sold in 24 hours.
Around 55% of the sales were on the Xbox 360, %33 were on the PS3, and the remaining %12 were for the PC. After the all the issues we have been hearing about, it’s probably a good thing more people opted for the 360 version.
Analysts are speculating that Modern Warfare 2 will sell over 12 million copies through December.
